WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT YOU. ALMOST NOTHING.

You Are Star Stuff is a small animated science series made in Toronto. We collect as little as we can, we never sell or rent it, and this page says plainly what happens to the little we do collect.

Who we are

You Are Star Stuff is run by Michael, the person behind the series, from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Michael is the privacy contact for everything on this page. Reach him at stew@youarestarstuff.com.

What we collect, and why

The waitlist. If you join the list, we keep:

your email address,
which items you ticked (for example, the Stew plush), and
the date and time you signed up.

We use this for one thing: to send you a short confirmation when you sign up, and then one email per item you ticked when that item is ready to buy. No newsletters, no "just checking in". We do this because you asked us to, by entering your address and clicking the button. You can change your mind at any time (see "Your choices" below).

Email you send us. If you write to us, we keep the conversation so we can reply and remember what we talked about.

Server logs. Like every website, our host records basic technical details of each visit (your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time) to keep the site running and to block abuse. Its spam filter also looks at form submissions. We do not use these logs to identify or profile you.

What we don't do

We don't sell, rent or trade your information with anyone.
We don't run analytics, advertising scripts, tracking pixels or social media buttons on this site.
We don't set cookies. The site is static and needs none to work.
We don't load fonts, images or scripts from third-party servers, so visiting this site sends nothing about you to Google or anyone else.
We don't embed YouTube players. Links to our episodes open YouTube in a new tab, where YouTube's own policies apply.

Who handles it for us

Two companies process waitlist data on our behalf:

Netlify hosts the site and stores form submissions. Netlify's privacy policy
Resend delivers the emails we send. Resend's privacy policy

Both are based in the United States, so your information is stored there and may be subject to US law. They are only allowed to use it to provide their service to us. Nobody else has access to it.

How long we keep it

We keep your waitlist entry until the items you ticked have launched and we've sent you that email, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first. Then we delete it. Our email provider keeps delivery logs for a limited period under its own policy, and our host keeps server logs for a short time under its own policy.

Your choices and your rights

Unsubscribe. Reply to any email from us with "unsubscribe" and we'll remove you within ten business days. You can also just email us.
See, fix or delete it. Email stew@youarestarstuff.com and we'll tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. We answer within 30 days.
Withdraw consent. Any time, by any of the routes above.
Complain. If you think we've handled your information badly, tell us first and we'll fix it. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information. If you live in the United Kingdom or the European Union you have the rights set out in the GDPR, including access, erasure and portability, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.

Age

Everyone is welcome to watch the series and use this site. The waitlist, though, is for people 16 and older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you think someone under 16 has signed up, email us and we'll delete the entry.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS only. Access to the waitlist is limited to the person who runs the channel, and the keys that let the site send email are stored in our host's protected settings, not in the site's code. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep so little that there is very little to lose.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects what we do with the waitlist, we'll say so in the next email we send you.
